Dallas Symphony Orchestra at the Meyerson presents "The Two sides of Ravel" through March 2, 2014

FROM the website of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra

Jaap van Zweden conducting
Louis Lortie at the piano

Feb 27 through March 2, 2014

It begins softly. A single snare drum. Then, a flute. Gradually, each instrument of the Dallas Symphony joins in. One after the other. Until Ravel's "Bolero" reaches one of the greatest climaxes in all of music. Also, the brilliant Louis Lortie performs Mozart's delicate Piano Concerto No. 21, "Elvira Madigan."

Kolja Blacher, leader and violin

Violinist Kolja Blacher returns to San Antonio to lead the orchestra from the concertmaster chair in a series of intimate and charming classical works. Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings, an exquisite jewel for string orchestra sings in elegant phrases, and embraces a Russian flavor. With his Symphony No. 1 Beethoven introduced his own distinctive symphonic voice to the musical circles of Vienna, and Mozart’s “Turkish” Violin Concerto, famous for its brief episode of exotic Turkish elements, sparkles with wit.

Tchaikovsky Serenade in C major

Mozart Concerto No. 5 in A major for Violin and Orchestra, K. 219, “Turkish”

Beethoven Symphony No. 1 in C major
