American violinist Philippe Quint gives sparkle and polish to each note of Mendelssohn’s immortally vibrant Violin Concerto on a program that also features a luscious arrangement for orchestra of Brahms’s Piano Quartet in G minor that abounds with memorable melodies. Bach’s Ricercare from Musical Offering, with its dialogue of overlapping voices, creates a brilliant and complex musical structure, and brings the inventive genius of Bach to the forefront.
