Shreveport Opera - Le Tragedie de Carmen - Saturday Feb 4, 2012 - Riverview Theater @ 7:30 PM

Shreveport Opera's 2nd presentation of its current opera season brings to you the opera Carmen in an adaptation by Peter Brook. Born in London in March, 1925, Brook is famous for both his pioneering work in the cinema and in the theater with productions such as The Beggar's Opera, Lord of the Flies, The Marat-Sade and King Lear.

This Chamber version of Carmen revisits the original Prosper Merimee novella with more emphasis on the story line and less on the spectacular production Bizet created for large orchestra, a huge cast, chorus and dancers. The Brook adaptation has been condensed to 80 - 90 minutes, much shorter than Bizet's original 3 hour Carmen.

Shreveport Opera's production consists of 8 cast members accompanied in the pit by a chamber ensemble.

The Cast members - La Tragedie de Carmen

Carmen - Eliza Bonet
Michaela - Rachel Hall
Don Jose - Cody Austin
Escamillo - Robert Mellon
Zuniga - John Goddard
Lillias Pastia - Dean Anthony
The Witch - Jenifer Akins
Garcia - Luke Sexton

- The Conductor -

Kostis Protopapas

- The Chamber Ensemble -
