Previously -

The July 1st, 2010 deadline has been extended to end of business day, Tuesday July 6 for contract negotiations between the SSO Board, the Musicians of the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra and the Musicians' Union, so I thought now would be the perfect time to feature our members in a photo collage at the top of my blog in the header. The collage includes members of other orchestras in the area as well as the SSO. Every day another SSO musician will be featured.

I was the Personnel Manager of the SSO for 32 years and also a horn player in the orchestra when each current Full Time Contract Musician auditioned for and won a position in our orchestra. ALL current 24 full time players except for two were living in other parts of the country at the time of their audition. These players are often referred to as Core Players because they are the unit of the orchestra which are required to be available for ALL SSO services whether daytime or nighttime. They are the musicians who perform ensemble educational programs in our schools in addition to the larger orchestral services that the SSO has offered for many years. Each has an individual contract with the SSO.

Per Service Contract Musicians also audition for our orchestra. Some live in town or in the area and others live as far away Houston, Dallas and Kansas.  Each has an individual contract with the SSO.

Other members of our orchestra are Extras, they have no individual contract with the SSO, but play on a regular basis. Some may play as needed for the instrumentation required for a particular orchestra concert.
