2 photos above by Galina Mikhaylova

If you missed the OPUS concert last Saturday night 9-26-09 presented by the newly formed non-profit CODA, a 501 (C)(3), we hope you'll have another opportunity later this season. Held at FBC Shreveport, the evening began with the I-49 Brass Quintet classics and blues and the Flute Piano Jazz ensemble. After intermission the OPUS Orchestra conducted by Kermit Poling roared into Beethoven's 5th Symphony and the acoustics in the hall captured it all. Broadcast of this concert will be aired on Public Radio KDAQ, Friday October 30th at Noon, 89.9 on your FM dial.
CODA is working with the city to bring orchestra ensembles back to the schools. If you would like to donate to help support your OPUS Orchestra musicians, and promote a variety of performances in our community, please, go to http://www.coda-nwla.org/ or email codanwla@gmail.com. Contributions are tax-deductable.

AND

THE OPUS ORCHESTRA

In October 2008, the newly formed OPUS Orchestra (Orchestra Players United of Shreveport-Bossier) presented a Benefit concert at First Baptist Church of Shreveport for Louisiana hurricane victims, an opportunity to share our music for the good of those less fortunate. A check in the amount of $2,200.00 was presented to the local chapter of the Red Cross early this year by Rick Rowell and Peter Haas representing the members of the Orchestra.

On September 26th, 2009, the OPUS Orchestra through the efforts of the newly formed non-profit organization CODA (a 501 3(c), will present its first concert of the 2009-2010 season to share with our neighbors and friends in the community, "Diversity in Music". Venue again will be the sanctuary of First Baptist Church Shreveport. Concert time 7:00 PM. Prices are 25.00 general admission and 5.00 for students.

Tickets are available at the following locations and at the door:

Cadenza Violins - 3710 Youree Dr., S'pt
The Band House - 1273 Sp't Barksdale Hwy (Shreve City) S'pt

Sam Henry, IV Law Offices - 560 Boardwalk Blvd, Bossier City

The program will feature OPUS ensembles and the OPUS Orchestra in a variety of works written in different styles.

On the first half of the program The I-49 Brass consisting of Rick Rowell and Mike Scarlato on trumpet, horn player Thomas Hundemer, trombonist Michael Davidson and bass trombonist J. Mark Thompson will offer a full spectrum of brass music - classic, to blues to jazz. Flutist Sally Horak will join pianist Gay Grosz, bassist Christopher Allen and percussionist Chandler Teague for the foot tapping Claude Bolling Jazz Trio.

After intermission Maestro Kermit Poling will conduct the OPUS Symphony Orchestra in the all time audience favorite Beethoven Symphony No. 5.
