The G & S Society will present a concert production of Arthur Sullivan's Cantata The Golden Legend, including music by Franz Liszt, Saturday, August 22, 2009 @ St Joseph's Church in Shreveport, 7:30 PM. Conducting the choir, soloists and orchestra will be Marc-Andre Bougie.

Greg Miles, entertainment director at Sam’s Town Casino called and offered booth space free of charge at the “James Burton Guitar Festival” this week-end. Locations are as follows:

Friday: August 21 - 5:00 pm til 12:00 @ Festival Plaza.
Saturday: August 22 - 11:30 til 2:00 @ Hirsch


From Susan:
The booth on Friday will be set up by the beer booth at Festival Plaza. Wicked Tickle.com will be in that same area. Saturday at the Hirsch there will be tables inside the front hallway or the tent outside the walk up.
Conrad Lindsey will pick up passes for us at the Municipal Auditorium on Wednesday and have them at the Union on Thursday and Friday.

See you thereWe will need to provide a pop-up tent and signs. We will also need volunteers both days to man the booth.
This is a great opportunity for the Musicians to promote themselves in the local music community.

Well, folks, my Rauch has a new leadpipe thanks to my colleague Dennis Houghton and the elves, Vurl Bland (hope I spelled this correctly), Tuba and Chris Reddick, Horn. Welding torches, cabinets with drawers full of little "parts", things hanging from the walls, posters of our favorite musicians, busy but tidy. All sorts of big pieces and little pieces just waiting for the caregivers to fit them all neatly back together again. Need a cut bell or a valve job? A clean horn, a used horn? Major work for dent repair? Advice regarding your horn sound and projection? Try Houghton Horns, LLC, Keller, TX where the Horn and horn players reign, where the West begins and where your forgotten Horn can find a new home somewhere and be happy. Given my husband's background in auto mechanics, he would "love" this place.

Outside and inside, you can tell this place belongs to a special musician, a horn player who loves his work. The Knopf I mentioned below isn't in my future, but I am sure it will find a good home somewhere. I myself have 2 horns for which Dennis is hoping to find a new home, a Reynolds and a Kruspe. A horn lesson was in progress during my visit given by Susan Houghton.

Taking my Rauch to Dennis Haughton August 2009

Next - my visit to see Dennis Houghton in Ft Worth (uh, Keller), TX yesterday. You know, Dennis Houghton, horn player, horn rescuer, seller of Homeless Horns? He's working on my Rauch and installing another leadpipe. And BTW, I picked up my mom in Dallas on my return to Shreveport and my family and I are all celebrating my birthday tomorrow. Suddenly it became a cake and ice cream party, a work still in progress.

Staying in shape during periods of drought (like 11 months) can become boring. A little creativity from time to time can spice things up. Scales, etudes, arpeggios, excerpts, breathing exercises. UGH! Doesn't give me chill bumps. Where's the garlic? Weight training, running, yoga, aerobics. Ahhhh, slowly getting somewhere. Cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, jalapenos. . . . . . . How about hangin' with your buds for a few hours making music and then having a late Saturday lunch at Jason's Deli, families invited? Now that sounds more like it! Yes! Yes! Now if we could just do this again when we're all back in town. YAHOO!
